The story is dark and ends with the message that even when defeating your fears, inner reflection can summon the darkness again, because darkness is older than you will ever hope to be.The book is an anniversary edition, the original published 20 years ago and is still just as strong and reflective now as it was then. The illustration are dark and still they draw you in. The story is engaging and captivating, you'll have a hard time putting it down.
