Inseverable by Cece Robson

How can you imagine forever with someone who's leaving everything behind?

Callahan, a former army sniper, wants to make an escape from his past and everything he experienced at war, but most of all, just not feel. Feeling leads to pain and he's suffered enough. When he inherits a house on South Carolina's Kiawah Island, he packs his bags, lured by the peace and seclusion he thinks it will bring. But, Callahan never counted on meeting anyone like Trinity . . .

Trinity has always been the cute, and funny one, who most guys overlook in pursuit of her "hot" friends. She became used to being everyone's pal, until the day the young man she was attracted to, was drawn to her in return. He became her first great love, and first crushing heartbreak when she found him in bed with one of her closest friends.

To move forward, and to carry out her commitment to helping those in need, Trinity enlists in the Peace Corps, but not before returning to Kiawah for one last memorable summer. She just never imagined it would be so unforgettable.

Callahan doesn't want to get close to anyone-let alone Trinity. He finds her perkiness insufferable and her attempts to entice a smile distracting. After all, he's in Kiawah to leave all feelings behind. But when it comes to Trinity, who feels everything, it's hard not to feel something.

Neither expected to fall in love. And no one could have predicted how inseverable they'd become.

Prologue

Callahan

Three days.

That’s all I have left until this shit ends.

Three days shouldn’t feel like forever, not compared to the eight years I’ve bled to the Army. Thing is, good men have been killed in less time. In as quick as a blink, a squeeze of a trigger, or a small breath right before a grenade blows is all the time it takes to shove someone right out of life and well into death.

That’s what makes three days as long as it is. Three days is plenty of time to die.

My eyes tear when the wind picks up and shoots grime through the small hole of my lookout point. This blown out piece of cinderblock is only big enough to allow me a view of the street below, but not so small I don’t get smacked in the face with more filth. The tarp flaps above me as I spit out another layer of the dirt-sand mix spackling my teeth. Christ Almighty, I need a swig of the water resting near my elbow. But my thirst, like everything else has to wait.

I have a job to do.

I adjust my hips against the cracked cement of my bed, bathroom, and home all rolled into one, thankful that the agonizing ache stretching over the lower half of my body has settled into a now familiar numbness.

Out of all the points I’d scouted, and all the accumulated years spent in this position, I should be used to it. And in a strange way, it should almost be home. Yet nothing ever has been home.

But in three days, maybe something finally will be . . .

I shove my thoughts away and breathe as my fellow Rangers stalk along the street. It’s then I see them, a mother and daughter walking straight toward my team. Less than one city block separates them from the men counting on me to keep them alive.

The hell? How did they get past the other sniper unreported? Rogers is new on watch. But the quick paces these two are taking should have clued him in that something’s up. I train my scope on their faces; their expressions are blank, unreadable. ‘Cept that’s not what keeps my attention.

The little girl can’t be more than five. So why the fuck isn’t her mother holding her hand? I lift my radio and bark a warning, dropping it beside me as I lock my scope dead center on the woman’s head.

The radio crackles and Modreski chimes in, yelling at his team to hold their positions. He asks me what my plan is, knowing if something’s caused the short-hairs on my neck to rise, he and the boys damn well need to listen. But I don’t hear him, with a breath and a squeeze of the trigger, I leave a kid without a mother.

Just beneath the sleeve of her abayah―the dress completely covering her body―I see it, a detonator that would trigger the explosives likely strapped to her chest. A few Rangers I know―Simons and Boreman, rush forward. I start to mutter a curse, pissed at her for making me shoot her in front of her kid. But the curse lodges in my throat when I see the kid isn’t looking at her mother lying next to her dead.

She’s watching my advancing team as she lifts the detonator clasped tight in her hand.

This was such a good Beauty and the Beast type story. We have our handsome, tortured and very beastly hero, Callahan and our good hearted, sweet and smart beauty, Trinity.

Callahan served in the war, he's come back with a lot of baggage and just wants to be left alone, but Trinity takes one look at him and she is immediately drawn to him. Despite his constant brushoffs and trust me there where many, Trinity keeps coming for him and breaks down all of his walls.

Between Callahan and Trinity and the great supporting cast, I was enthralled and very much looking forward to Trinity's friends finding their happily ever after just like Trinity and Callahan.

“Homeless?” He quirked an eyebrow at her, which made more cracks in the mud on his face. “I’m not homeless. I just bought a place down the street. Two blocks away—it’s the blue duplex with the white shutters.”

He pointed toward a shady, tree-lined section of the neighborhood, and she recalled seeing the glossy “sold” sticker tacked up on the real estate sign a few weeks ago.

She looked back at the man. Okay, upon closer inspection, she could see he wore expensive running shoes and trendy, designer athletic apparel, even if it was covered in mud. What the hell?

“I just did the Tough Mudder,” he said, answering her unasked question. “You know, the big race with all the mud pits and obstacles?”

“Right,” Miriam said, and recognition dawned as the guy turned around to show her the dirt-covered number pinned to his back. At least, that’s what she assumed he was showing her, though her eyes strayed down to one of the most impressive asses she’d ever seen.

Even if it was covered in mud.

The guy turned back around before she thought to avert her gaze. The result was an awkward five-second pause where she found herself staring at his crotch.

Also very impressive.

She gave herself a mental slap and met his eyes again. “So what are you doing walking around looking like a giant malt ball? Don’t they have showers or something at the finish line?”

He grinned, flashing a set of perfectly white teeth that contrasted with the mud. “Just hoses. Hoses with really cold water. I figured since I only lived a couple miles from the race course, I could just run there as my warm-up and run home as my cooldown, and then I could grab a warm shower at home.”

“Right,” Miriam said, trying to wrap her brain around the idea of willingly running four miles on top of whatever the hell they ran in the actual race. People really did this on purpose?

“The thing is,” the guy continued, “I lost my key somewhere in the racecourse, and now I can’t get back in my house to shower off in time to make it to a doctor’s appointment.”

Sympathy fluttered through her belly, or maybe that was anxiety. Probably anxiety. The mention of doctors and hospitals and anything medically related tended to send her spiraling down a path of panicked memories and despondent terror, and she found herself gripping her keys a little tighter. “You have to get to the doctor?” she asked.

“The appointment’s at two. Please, I just need to borrow your phone to call a locksmith. Then I’ll be out of your hair, I swear.”

She glanced at him, then back at her house. Her phone was back on the entry table, but right beside that was her guest bathroom with a shower the guy could use without stepping more than five feet inside her place. Ordinarily she’d think twice about inviting a strange man into her home, but there was something about this man that made her consider it. She could always stand there with a butcher
knife, ready to stick it in him if he tried anything funny. She hesitated, then looked back at the guy.

“I’m Jason, by the way,” he said, smiling wider. “Jason Sanders. I’d shake your hand, but I don’t want to get mud on you.”

“Miriam.” She added polite and considerate to his list of attributes. His eyes were kind, and he seemed sweet and well-spoken.

That’s probably what every serial killer’s victim thinks just before he strangles her with her own panty hose.

But she wasn’t wearing panty hose, and she did have a soft spot for friendly, burly, blue-eyed, stubble-jawed guys in need.

“Come on,” she said and turned toward her walkway.

“Follow me.”

“Follow you where?”

“My house. You can’t stand out here being dirty.”

He quirked one eyebrow, which caused the mud to crack on his forehead. “You’d rather I be dirty in your house?”

I loved book 1 in the series, so when I found out Miriam was getting her own book I just had to read it, and let me tell you this book did not disappoint.

Miriam and Jason where amazing. The way the characters played off each other was just awesome. Miriam is so girly-girl and Jason is so Mr. Outdoors, throw in a work relationship and you're in for such a love-coaster.

Ms. Fenske really knows how to give us some sweet couples and some very hunky men.

The Naughty List by Norm Harper

Perfect little Franklin overhears a plan to kidnap Santa on Christmas from his house, so he does what any good little boy does and decides to save Santa by removing himself from the “Good List”.

The story was creative and entertaining. The sentences were short, perfect for young readers.

Worth by Aubrey Sitterson, Paul Morrissey (Editor), Chris Moreno (Illustrations)

This was a heartbreaking story about remaining a constant in an ever-advancing technological world.

Grant has the ability to control mechanical objects, provided they don’t have a computer. As things advanced his power became obsolete. A personal tragedy led to Worth becoming recluse. But neighborhood boy pulls the unwilling recluse to the world of the living.

Aubrey did a great job with this story and Chris didn’t disappoint with the art. The story focuses on becoming obsolete and finding a new purpose. Definitely worth checking out Worth.

Street Fighter x G.I. Joe #1 (of 6)by Aubrey Sitterson, Emilio Laiso (Illustrator), Mike Choi (Illustrator)

OMFG!!! This was so cool. This mini-series starts off with the first set of fighters going up against each other.

As someone who grew up playing Street Fighter I was so stoked with the story. At this point I’m giving this issue a 5 out of 5.

Then the unthinkable (at least to me) happens and I was shocked. SHOCKED I tell you. RYU, the Ryu gets eliminated and I’m like WTF. Although by the time I finished the issue I was certain there is a conspiracy a-foot and Ryu has a plan. No way the best fight in the world loses. So now I’m dying for the next issue.

My Best Friend's Stepfather #1-3 by Opal Carew

** this review is for all 3 parts **

I’m a huge fan of Opal Carew but I just couldn’t get into this one.

The characters: Ash, Dare and Adam just didn’t keep me entertained.

Plus, I felt that as the story progressed it just got too crazy.

I also hated Dare’s step-daughter; she was such be-ach and in the end she gets no just deserts or anything.

I also didn’t like the ending, but then I was not a huge fan of the three of them ending up together.

Overall, I will still read Ms. Carew’s work because she is a great writer.

Romancing the Ranger by Jennie Marts

The story follows Reese Hudson and park ranger Wade Baker who meet when Reese accidentally burns down an outhouse in a state park. Instead of accepting the apology and the offer to pay for the damages the judge decides that Reese needs to build a new one and Wade gets to supervise.

As they work together they get a lot closer. Sure it got a little annoying with Wade playing hot and cold but then after reading his story you’re like “ok”. Reese was so nice despite being the only child of rich, overprotective man. I loved when she stood up to her father and defended Wade.

The Billionaire's Christmas Gift by Cheryl Adnams

This was such a sweet story about a second chance at life.

Edward Moore lost his family during the holiday season in a tragic way because he was too busy working. Now he goes undercover every holiday season to find worthy charities to donate money to.

Casey works two jobs and volunteers at a soup kitchen. She’s sweet, nice and always sees the best in everyone.

Both leads were amazingly nice. The story had a great feel good vibe.
