Klaus by Grant Morrison, Dan Mora (Illustrator)

Oh my god! Grant Morrison outdid himself with this incredible and amazing tale of Santa Klaus.

You get a story of how Klaus became Santa and honestly the whole superhero like depiction makes him just so much more badass.

I will says I was hoping he’d end up with the girl, but either way totally amazing.

I can’t wait for the upcoming one-shot coming in December.

Anansi Boys (American Gods #2) by Neil Gaiman

Normally I’m a huge fan of anything Neil Gaiman writes; it’s imaginative, it’s creative and it offers you an interesting fantasy. However, this story really didn’t do it for me.

The main characters were barely likeable in my opinion. For me it got so bad that I was actually rooting for the villain, Tiger.

Anansi, the one extravagant and amusing character that I did enjoy was dead by the beginning of the story. So sadly this one fell flat for me.

Cinderella Had it Easy (The Cinderella Body Club #1) by Jennifer Conner

25209899Camille "Cami" Carlina has never felt like the girl that can turn heads, with a couple of scars from a vehicle accident in her youth, she feels drab. When her grandma Cami gives her a locket that is supposed to have magical powers that turn the wisher into the ideal version of themselves; you know perfect hair, flawless skin, no muffin top. Well, Cami and her friends jokingly make the wish and the next day wham, they're their ideal selfs (you can read about her friends in the next books).

Cami is her ideal self, so she embarks to make the most of her day and then she meets Prince Charming, I mean Lance Rainey. After a hilarious meeting and a date at the museum they go back to Lance's hotel room.

Having just moved into town for a new job Lance is smitten when he meets Cami and they argue over history. When she flees, the sets out to find his Cinderella. What Cami doesn't realize is that the whole time she thought the magic made her "ideal", she was just herself and that's what got Lance's attention. The locket just gave her the confidence she needed to be outgoing.

The story was really sweet and the characters were enjoyable, even when they are arguing about history. I would have readily given this story a 5 had we gotten a little more detail on Cami's grandma's use of the locket; hey, maybe Cami Sr. will get her own book.

Hinterkind Vol. 2: Written in Blood by Ian Edginton

Two things, Vampires are great at black ops and don't trust your kids. In this installment, we see the Vampires coming to America to establish a strong hold and the Sidhe being done in by the avarice of the Prince and Princess.

We have Prosper continuing her search for grandfather and making unlikely allies in a quest for survival. We see unlikely groups coming together in preparation for the upcoming conflicts; this book will really get you anxious for the next volume.

I really cannot wait to see what happens with the Sidhe, I mean damn the palace scene, I was like holy F$@; totally did not see that coming; or maybe I do and I just didn't think it would happen.

The Wicked + The Divine Volume 1 by Kieron Gillen and Jamie Mckelvie

23093359This was an interesting read; apparently every 90 years gods take possession of a mortal vessel. They can live in this world for two years and then die (well that's getting the short end of the stick) to begin the cycle all over again. While here they all become music sensations with a trope of followers all over.

The story follows Laura, a college student (who never shows up for class) as she follows these god music sensations all over her city. While at a concert she meets Lucifer, who also goes by Luci and she eventually sets out to prove Luci didn't kill a Judge. After that things just get crazy and that ending; you will definitely want to be checking into the next volume.

Oh and in case I completely forgot to mention this, the "gods" are from an array of myths and you obviously noticed the "Lucifer" thing; some of these "gods" have the names of fallen angels. You know, fallen angels, the ones cast from heaven into a fiery abyss. You'll definitely have some fun with this creative story.

Dresden War Cry by Jim Butcher, Mark Powers, Carlos Gómez, Stjepan Sejic

The loose cannon wizard Dresden has been recruited by the White Court to help combat the Vampires of the Red Court hell bent on taking over the world.

Dresden and a few new recruits are sent on a secret mission that starts to look more and more like a setup and a double cross than an actual mission.

The story is good, it's engaging and it has everything that makes magical wars must reads; that being someone on the good side being secretly evil. There is a lot of killing and mayhem as Dresden and his crew try to hold of like 100+ vamps; talk about being the underdogs Dresden and three new wizards against all those vamps, damn. Don't sweat it though, the book is named after Dresden so he obviously has a plan or two to win.

This is a definitely a series worth following up on and hopefully we'll get a better idea of who the traitor is; and the Red Court who is the Leader.

Amulet, Vol. 6: Escape From Lucien (Amulet #6) by Kazu Kibuishi

Amulet #6 continues to follow the journey of the stone keepers and Navin.

The book is filled with action and adventures to keep young audiences engaged.

The illustrations are incredible and the color schemes are gorgeous; the book reads like a graphic novel, so it's not that long. This book is perfect for kids ages 7-9. The concept is so creative, it sort of feels like Lord of the Rings for young kids, so you know it will be good.

The Crystal Slipper by Selena Fulton

Guys are idiots. This is a really good twist on the fairy tales we all know and love; this story takes elements from Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast.

23127692Preston gets to play the role of Prince Charming and Beast, he is arrogant, impatient and a bit narcissistic. Well, he pisses off a Witch, who in her anger cast a sleeping spell that afflicts his sister; the spell can only be broken with true loves kiss. The Witch sends Preston on a chase all over the world to solve all these riddles; except Preston still fails to see what the riddles are telling him.

Celinda gets to play the role of Cinderella with a little bit of Belle [Beauty from Beauty and the Beast], she has had a hard life, the only good thing for her are her books. She doesn't believe in magic and thinks anyone who does is dumb [again Cinderella here, her life is nothing to get all cheery about]; well somehow Preston sucks her into his quest to break the spell.

Along the way, Celinda falls in love with Preston, but Preston, being you know an idiot, takes his time to get to speed with his feelings. Like in every fairy tale, true love conquers all and they live happily ever after.

Maddy Kettle Book 1: The Adventure of the Thimblewitch by Eric Orchard

Maddy is on a quest to find the Thimblewitch and save her parents. This is a fantasy adventure story for little children around ages 4-6. The story is sweet and short and the book ends a to be continued sort of fashion, which lets the reader know there will be more adventures for Maddy Kettle.

It's great for young readers and the pictures are so pretty, the drawing style is a la Coraline, but the great detail and color schemes make them incredible.

Skylanders: The Kaos Trap by Ron Marz and Mike Bowden

This was an amusing read; this is a book for children ages 4 to 10. The book is full of adventures for the Skylander heroes as they protect the Skylands and thwart the evil Kaos.

This is a great book for children learning how to read, the dialogue is simple and the graphics are colorful and captivating. The characters are very amusing; so I definitely recommend this book to parents who want to get their little ones into reading.

Courtney Crumrin: The Final Spell by Ted Naifeh

This is the final volume in the series. Courtney, with the help of her former teacher Calpurnia is on the run from the Coven. Things look bad, especially when she thinks even her uncle Aloysius has turned on her as well.

The ending has such a great twist and the art is incredible, very goth. The writing is good, the story is engaging and captivating. This was a good ending for a series and for some reason I feel like there may be a new series for Courtney in the future.
