The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman

Mr.Gaiman gives us a nice twist to the more traditional, post-happily ever after Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.

The villain is not who you expect and as for the hero, it would be more appropriate to say heroine.

This was an enjoyable short-read with enough twists and gasping moments to draw you in.

The Crystal Slipper by Selena Fulton

Guys are idiots. This is a really good twist on the fairy tales we all know and love; this story takes elements from Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast.

Preston gets to play the role of Prince Charming and Beast, he is arrogant, impatient and a bit narcissistic. Well, he pisses off a Witch, who in her anger cast a sleeping spell that afflicts his sister; the spell can only be broken with true loves kiss. The Witch sends Preston on a chase all over the world to solve all these riddles; except Preston still fails to see what the riddles are telling him.

Celinda gets to play the role of Cinderella with a little bit of Belle [Beauty from Beauty and the Beast], she has had a hard life, the only good thing for her are her books. She doesn't believe in magic and thinks anyone who does is dumb [again Cinderella here, her life is nothing to get all cheery about]; well somehow Preston sucks her into his quest to break the spell.

Along the way, Celinda falls in love with Preston, but Preston, being you know an idiot, takes his time to get to speed with his feelings. Like in every fairy tale, true love conquers all and they live happily ever after.

Age of Darkness Volume 1 by Patrick Shand

I love villains, they always have such great, twisted back stories, not to mention they get really cool colors and they always sound so dramatic, oh and best of all they always have really cool powers.

So, this book follows the return of the Dark Queen and her quest to eliminate all the highborns. It was good, the graphics were great and my favorite was by far the scary tooth fairy. She eats human teeth and she also eats human bones. How awesome is that? 

The Grimm Fairy Tales graphic novels put a fun and grizzly twist on the characters Disney made too frilly. Definitely get yourself a copy and continued to check out this series.

Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer by Dusty Higgins

Netgalley provided an ARC that only goes to the halfway mark of the book [bummer]. Well, the first half of the book was good. Picture this, Pinocchio and Gepetto survive the great whale, but Pinocchio is still a wooden boy, Gepetto begins to warn Pinocchio of the great evil that is coming; but what does Pinocchio [who is still a bad boy] do, he ignores the warnings and Gepetto gets killed by vampires. As they're about to kill Pinocchio he tells a lie and pierces a vamp, turning him to flames, then dust. Now Pinocchio becomes a good boy and sets off on a quest to kill all vamps.

At the halfway mark Pinocchio becomes a real boy and the ARC cuts off, but it left me with such a cliff hanger that I'm now gonna have to go and buy; yes go, as in go to a store, if I have to buy it I want a nice hard copy.

The novel is all black and white, but it totally works with the vampire and old world motif its rocking. So this is definitely a fun read.
