Spread, Vol. 1: No Hope (Spread #1-6) by Justin Jordan, Kyle Strahm (artist)

24935407It's dark, it's gory, it's sickening good. In this new story by the super talented team of Justin Jordan and Kyle Strahm we are introduced to No, Holly, and Hope in a post-apocalyptic world.

When a mysterious and gorily beautiful virus referred to as the spread that kills everything. No is a man immune to the virus with very little to say; when he encounters a baby that turn out to be able to kill the spread with bodily fluids (I did say gory), he's hmm this could work. Later No and the baby that is later referred to as Hope (yeah, she is a special baby) meet Holly a woman that is captured by slavers and a little crazy (tragic backstory hinted at). Obviously the spread wants to kill the baby and what is left of civilization is shit so yeah things get pretty crazy.

The story is told from Hope's point of view, reflecting on the past. This is a definitely must checkout series. I will say that the art alone makes it a must. Plus the characters are really interesting, especially No, who seems to only ever say no, no, no.

The Bunker: Volume 1 by Joshua Hale Fialkov, Joe Infurnari (Illustrations)

Bad authors, very bad. Never have anything written in cursive and then make it super tiny; that right there was 1 star, I had to re-read those small types just to make sure I got what they said.

"On their way to bury a time capsule, five friends - Grady, Heidi, Natasha, Daniel, and Billy - uncover a metal bunker buried deep in the woods. Inside, they discover letters addressed to each of them ... from their future selves! Told they will destroy the world in the very near future, the friends find themselves, over the next few days, growing further and further apart. Though they've been warned against making the wrong choices, how do they know what the right ones are? Can the future really be changed, or will an even darker fate engulf the world?"

The story lost another star because instead of coming together to try and figure things out, the friends end up fighting each other. Which can you really blame them, Daniel is in a relationship with Natasha and then sleeps with Heidi, who is Natasha's best friend. There is no excuse for something like that.

The story end in a major cliff hanger and when it comes to apocalyptic futures , I need sequels ASAP, this is way too trippy for them to leave me hanging.

Now I'm wondering which one of them is dead in the future and if they time travelled to the past, why not simply tell their past selves what to do and not do. Again too trippy and way too many questions.

Gate-Way: A New World by Joe Halpin Sr, Juanfrancisco Moyano (Illustrations)

Nice series has a lot of potential and the concept seems so cool. Dying and going to limbo and then the possibility of actually dying in limbo, crazy.

The main character Jake, is a cop who gets shot and dies in a sting operation, he winds up in limbo and on his first day there meets Jessica a girl who died in a car crash; now I could be wrong but I got the hint of sparks between these two characters, lets hope I'm right because every superman needs his Lois Lane.

In limbo we've got 3 groups; the bossy political types who reside and rule Hopetown, the anarchist who reside and just go crazy in Freedom Town, and finally we've got what I can only call the wasteland, which is ruled by the dark souls [oooooooooooooooooscaryyyy].

This is the first book in the series and you must read to know the future of limbo, plus to know if anyone actually ever moves on from limbo. This book has a great storyline and the graphics are wicked, definitely worth getting yourself a copy.

The Strain (The Strain #1) by David Lapham, Mike Huddleston, Sierra Hahn

I can totally see this getting turned into a movie.

The story follows Ephraim a doctor for the CDC, he has a son named Zack and he has an ongoing relationship with his coworker Nora, another doc for the CDC.

The story starts off with a very creepy old folklore tale, that captivates the reader.

Then we jump to present time and we've got a mysterious plane landing in JFK where everyone is dead, I know creepy. Then we learn that vampires are real and they're like parasitic worms that feed on blood.

Then we meet an old man, who is like vampire worm extraordinaire and he starts educating them on how to fight these things and whatever is coming.

The graphics are so awesome, they're gory and disgusting and gruesome; just like a vampire comic book should be. The only reason this book lost point with me is, don’t introduce me to the Master and not show me how he was made. That does not jive, I demand drawings depicting his creation.

Overall, you should get yourself a copy of both the graphic novel version and the book version by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
