Of course being centered in Gotham we will occasionally see Batman make an appearance or two, but he isn't the hero in these stories.
The art follows a more gruff / noir style but it totally works to reflect the vibe of the story.
Some aspects of the story were a little far fetched because come on, if you have a giant monster and a supernatural being you think Batman and the JLA will not be interfering. That small aspect detracted from the story for me, but it was entertaining.
